We can’t address “transitioning” without considering motivation of the “care givers”.

I’m sure some MDs genuinely feel that mutilating kids & disrupting their natural development is actually helping them, but that does not make them not-evil.

Taking parents out of the equation is just plain wrong, as is not protecting children from misguided parents & caregivers.

Using fear, lies, and half-truths should be a give-away re ideological caregivers.

No one should be allowed to mutilate kids, either surgically or hormonally until they are at least 18, and then only after extensive counseling.

In the case of mentally challenged young people, transitioning should controlled by the courts - and not by just a single judge.

Munchausen syndrome by proxy is relevant here I believe

Almost certainly a lot more than 776 mastectomies. The Reuters data doesn't include private pay procedures. And JAMA Pediatrics reports 1,130 from 2016-2019.

Combining data from JAMA Pediatrics (2016-2019: 1,130) and Reuters (2020-21: 538) there were at least 1,668 gender affirming mastectomies for kids ages 12-17. Add in a bare minimum estimate of 250 for 2022 (likely much more based upon trends) and looking at close to 2,000 such procedures.

"Numbers of gender-affirming chest surgeries among transgender adolescents jumped 389% from 2016 to 2019, researchers reported.

Drawing on data from the Nationwide Ambulatory Surgery Sample, an estimated 1,130 chest reconstructive surgeries were performed on transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) adolescents during these years, Rishub Karan Das, BA, of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, and colleagues found.

Nearly all were masculinizing, with only 1.4% feminizing, the group wrote in a research letter appearing in JAMA Pediatricsopens in a new tab or window.

Only about 100 of these surgeries were performed in 2016, after which they steadily became more popular, surpassing 200 surgeries in 2017 and 300 by 2018. Das and colleagues put the 2019 total at 489 (P<0.001 vs 2016).

Ages of the adolescents ranged from 12 to 17, with a median of 16.

For context, the researchers noted that approximately 300,000 adolescentsopens in a new tab or window between the ages of 13 and 17 identify as transgender in the U.S. today."

Solid comment. Thank you for dropping sources. I might attempt a more in depth followup given the data.

Thank you for this much needed and factual analysis.

At the same time, one should respect and treat respectfully - the actual grown up humans who concluded they are “ trannies” -- a courageous and not an easy decision.

Agreed. I focus on children here and have less concerns in regards to adults. My main area of concern for adults would be to examine criterion for informed consent are being met given all the dishonest euphemisms I see around these topics.

I don’t know. Are other sufferers of body dysmorphias courageous? Should we respect anorexics for making the brave decision to starve themselves? Bulimics for buying emetics? Cutters for obtaining fresh razor blades?

Let’s call a mental illness a mental illness. It does them no service to pretend otherwise.

Do you personally know any tranny (a man who sincerely believes to be a female from an early age)? I do.

It is a difficult life, certainly, but many are highly private and very happy and comfortable with their decision; not militant at all but trying to meld and not be noticed..

I think you need to ask yourself why you are simping for certain delusional sufferers but not others. It sounds like you've been gaslit by one of them.

It is difficult for me to see objectively in Spain, specifically in Madrid, transsexuality was never taboo but this new paradigm to which we are mutating I prefer to understand it through the data..., thanks for your informative work

I prefer a data approach as well. It's slower but I feel more comfortable doing things this way.

This is a horrifying trend that needs to have as much sunlight shone upon it as possible. However, in REALITY, even ONE child mutilated is too many. Attempts to justify it with claims of rarity are just trying to obscure the FACT that this is abusive medical mutilation that should never have been allowed to be performed on the FIRST child. Even just ONE is ENOUGH to say NO MORE!

FWIW, On GoFundMe you can find over 43,000 girls and young women looking for help funding their top surgeries, and 15,000+ mostly young people funding their bottom surgeries:

The research done by these NYT reporters showed that 11 pediatric gender clinic respondents (out of 100+ such clinics in the country) reported 203 gender-affirming top surgeries in 2021 on ages 13-17. Extrapolating from that number suggests the total was over 2,000:
